Instead of planning a big extravagant day, Kat and Alex stayed true to themselves and planned a small intimate backyard wedding. They prioritized what was important to them and forgot about the rest. Their entire day was relaxed and filled with lots of love and laughter. It was the perfect wedding day if you ask me!
I was so impressed with how Kat and Alex planned an intimate backyard wedding that was true to them. When they first inquired, Kat said they wanted to plan a simple wedding on their terms. I was immediately interested! They kept the guest list small and chose to get married at Alex’s parent’s house where he had grown up.
True to their vision, Kat and Alex’s day was super laid back. The couple did a first look with private vows before their ceremony. This allowed them to express their true emotions to each other without anyone watching. As a wedding photographer, this is always such a special moment to witness.
The couple had gotten legally married the week before so there was no pressure around the ceremony. In fact, some family members were still swimming up until 30 minutes before! Talk about low-key! They kept the ceremony light and exchanged funny vows in front of friends and family.
For their reception, the couple hired a food truck to cater dinner, and let me tell you, their food was goooood! Kat and Alex drank Dom Perignon all day and Kat even had a curly straw to drink straight out of her bottle.
After dinner, the three of us snuck away for the dreamiest sunset photos during golden hour! We got to witness the most magical sunset while Kat and Alex ran barefoot through the field. These sunset photos are some of my favorite photos from the day! These moments after the busyness of the day just felt so raw and free.
After couple portraits, we headed back to the reception. In their backyard, they had a simple dance floor set up and lit with string lights. It was a magical way to end the day!
Just because the day was over didn’t mean the celebration had stopped. Because the couple had booked me pretty close to their wedding, we ended up doing their ‘engagement’ session a few weeks after their wedding. The location (which happened to be just down the road from the wedding) was actually the spot where Alex had proposed to Kat! That made these photos even more special to the couple as they would always have something to remember this spot by.
Kat and Alex’s small intimate backyard wedding was the perfect day because it prioritized everything that was important to them! They saved the personal moments for just the two of them and celebrated the rest of the day laughing and relaxing with family and friends. They proved that your wedding truly can be whatever you want it to be.
